Is Disney afraid of a High School Musical burnout??

Thursday, February 28th, 2008 by Julia Zolondz

haha, mayyyybe. At least some sections of the entertainment group worry that the clock is ticking on High School Musical’s stream of popularity. According to Jim Hill Media, “Disney senior officials genuinely believe that — in spite of the fact that “High School Musical 3” is due to be released to theaters on October 24th of this year — that the HSM phenomenon will soon blow itself out. That’s one of the reasons that Disney — working with Feld Entertainment — put three companies of “High School Musical: The Ice Tour” out on the road at the exact same time last year. With the hope that they’d then be able to cash in before this tween favorite fell from favor.”

ouch.

Disney’s theater group has a whole new outlook, though, Disney Theatrical will release the stage adaptation of High School Musical 2 to performing groups this October “With a two act version of the “HSM 2″ stage show being available for high school, regional and professional productions, while a 70-minute, one-act version will then be marketed to middle schools.” Similar plans will follow after High School Musical 3’s debut.

So what do YOU think? How many more years can High School Musical dominate bedroom walls and sleepover soundtracks?

PSSSTTT…. You can see the official High School Musical On Tour stage show at Gammage Auditorium Jun. 24 - 29!

(BTW: there’s rumors of a High School Musical-themed dinner show opening in Orlando. Eating off of cafeteria trays at East High and riding Wildcat buses from Walt Disney World may sound boring to some, but I think it sounds FANTASTIC!!!)

Wondering how you’ll get your Zack and Cody fix after The Suite Life is off the air? Pshhhh… no worries… According to a Disney Channel press release, “Disney Channel is casting for the new live-action series “The Suite Life on Deck,” an offshoot of its hit Emmy-nominated series “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.” Reprising their roles are tween favorites Dylan and Cole Sprouse as Zack and Cody Martin, Brenda Song as London Tipton and Phill Lewis as Mr. Moseby. The new series follows twin brothers Zack and Cody Martin and hotel heiress London Tipton after they enroll in a semester-at-sea program aboard the SS Tipton and, to his chagrin, dutiful hotel manager Mr. Moseby must go aboard too, assuming responsibility for all three”

moseby.jpg

OMG that is why Moseby is my favorite character… he’s always full of chagrin!

“Zack and Cody go aboard a luxury passenger cruise liner, the SS Tipton, owned by London’s father, as it cruises the world with tourists and students who attend classes on Deck Eight, the one high school that London’s dad thinks will make his daughter a better student.  But while they’re out to sea, Zack and Cody still have their compass pointed towards mischief.”

Awwww yeah. Is there any OTHER WAY Z&C’s compass could possibly point? Did you think it would be NORTH??? NEVAHHH

Oh, and after the jump are some new Jonas Brothers pics from this Summer’s DCOM “Camp Rock.”
